Whitening

Whitening when you have crowns or veneers

Bleaching does not lighten crowns or veneers. An existing restoration may look different next to natural teeth after whitening.

What to discuss at your appointment

Ask the dentist to identify visible restorations and show how the shade plan accounts for them. Discuss whether any replacement would be worthwhile and what that adds to the budget. Agree on the sequence before new shade-matched work is ordered. A uniform result may require a different plan than whitening alone.

Three questions to take with you

  1. Which teeth will lighten?
  2. Will the restorations stand out?
  3. What sequence should we use?

Plan your next step

Write down the answers, the proposed appointments, and any information the office needs from you. If the explanation is unclear, ask for a written summary before deciding. Your own goals and the findings of an examination should guide the final choice.
