Spacing versus crowding: explain your alignment goals

Tell the clinician both what you see and what you feel. Visible spacing, crowding, and bite concerns may lead to different plans.

What to discuss at your appointment

Use photographs to describe the cosmetic concern, and mention trouble cleaning or any bite discomfort. Ask which changes are expected and which are outside the proposal. Review the plan at normal smiling distance as well as in a close-up simulation. Request an explanation of any uncertainty.

Three questions to take with you

  1. What will this plan change?
  2. What will it leave unchanged?
  3. How will we assess the bite?

Plan your next step

Write down the answers, the proposed appointments, and any information the office needs from you. If the explanation is unclear, ask for a written summary before deciding. Your own goals and the findings of an examination should guide the final choice.
